After being conquered once throughout the centuries, this city is quite rich in history.
In its most recent history, specifically during the first half of the last century, it became a colony populated by artists, esitores and musicians who discovered the beauty of the region, settling in Pollensa and becoming a very attractive place for visitors to Everyone since then.
There are several points of interest, such as the Roman bridge or ‘Pont Roma’, which is still used or the Puig de Pollensa - a small mountain on the top of which is a monastery just outside the city. Below we offer all the information you need to get the most out of this relaxed, culturally rich town.
Main attraction of Pollensa.
Plaça Mayor, which has a parish church dating from the 17th century, is the setting for one of Mallorca's best markets on Sunday, which attracts thousands of residents and tourists. In addition, the square has a variety of coffees to enjoy a good ‘coffee with milk’. Discover the artistic tradition of Pollensa and its emblematic buildings by taking a walk through the center. If you are interested in crafts and art, this is a little paradise.
A visit to Monti-sion, the old monastery and university, will take you to the beginning of the 365 steps to access El Calvari. Once you have climbed the steps, you will arrive at an 18th century church. History says that the 14th century statue found inside a Crucified Christ was discovered by fishermen in Cala Sant Vicenç.
The walk is surrounded by cypresses and on the way you can see some of the inner courtyards of the traditional houses of Pollensa.
The climb can be a bit tiring, so we recommend you bring a bottle of water along the way. Your reward is at the top with spectacular views of the area surrounding Pollensa.
There is a small cafe next to the church that is owned by a Swedish-Spanish couple, which offers refreshing drinks and ice cream.
